Parts of the body in English for kids

Tap a picture to hear the word. Twelve words for the face and body, the easiest words to practise because they are always with you.

Tap to hear

Good to know

  • Two words change for more than one: one tooth, two teeth; one foot, two feet.
  • Most others just add -s: two eyes, two ears, two hands.
  • Mouth ends in "th": put the tongue between the teeth, a sound Vietnamese does not have.

Play at home

  • Play "Touch your nose! Touch your ear!" and speed up as your child gets it.
  • Sing "Head, shoulders, knees and toes" together.
  • At bath time name each part as you wash it.

Practise with Word Island

Word Island practises face and body words, together with clothes, on Me and My Clothes, which opens with full access. Each pack is a set of short games where the child hears, picks and builds the word, says it out loud, and then meets all the pictures again.

Not in Word Island. The 12 words are eye, ear, nose, mouth, tooth, tongue, face, hand, finger, arm, leg and foot.
