What is English for Fun?

English for Fun is a set of six browser games that teach first English to children aged 4 to 6: letter names, numbers to 20, early maths, shapes and colours, 162 picture words and 135 first sentences. Every word is spoken by a voice and shown with a picture. The games have no ads and no accounts, collect no personal data about children, and work offline after the first visit. The first island of each game is free; one payment opens every island on up to 5 devices.

What age is it for?

Children aged 4 to 6 who are starting English, at home or in preschool. It suits families where English is not the home language, because every word is spoken and shown with a picture, and instructions are given by voice.

What will my child learn?

Letter Island: the names of all 26 letters and the first letter of a word. Number Island: numbers 0 to 20 and counting. Math Island: number order, more and fewer, making five and ten, first adding and taking away. Shape Island: ten shapes, six colours, symmetry and patterns. Word Island: 162 picture words on six islands, from animals to the town. I Can Read: 135 short sentences like "I see a cat".

Does it teach phonics?

Not yet. Letter Island teaches letter names and the first letter of a word, not letter sounds. We say this plainly so you can pair it with a phonics programme if you want one.

How much does it cost?

The first island of every game is free, with no sign-up. Full access is one payment that opens every island in all six games, on up to 5 devices in your household. Price: to be announced.

Which devices does it work on?

It runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers, so there is nothing to install from an app store. You can add each game to the home screen so it opens like an app.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. After the first visit the game and its sounds are saved on the device and work offline.

Does it record my child's voice?

No, and nothing is sent to us. In Letter, Number, Math and Shape Island the "Say it" step only listens for a voice. Word Island and I Can Read also check the word itself, using the speech recognition built into the browser when it has one; the browser maker (for example Google in Chrome or Apple in Safari) processes that audio under its own privacy policy, and this part needs internet. The microphone is optional, a parent can switch it off, and every game works without it.

Are there ads or in-game purchases?

There are no ads and nothing to buy inside the games. The only purchase is full access, made by a parent on this website.

What data do you collect about my child?

None. There are no child accounts. Progress (stars and finished islands) stays in the browser on your device.

How long should my child play?

Short sessions suit this age. Sit together for the first session; after that your child can play alone if you like. The progress page shows how many minutes were played each day.

Can I use it in my class or preschool?

Yes. Teachers can try every first island free. For classroom access or a teacher code, use the contact form.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of paying, for any reason. See the terms page for how.
