Who makes English for Fun
English for Fun is made by Dr. Hoang Quoc Chinh (TS. Hoàng Quốc Chính), a Vietnamese scientist who spent about ten years studying, teaching and doing research in English in the United States and the United Kingdom.
About the founder
- PhD in Molecular Biology (2010) and Master of Science in Molecular Biology (2007), New Mexico State University, United States. Studied in the US on a Vietnamese government scholarship (Project 322).
- Taught and assisted in teaching laboratory techniques and cell biology at New Mexico State University (2008–2009).
- Biomedical research at UT Southwestern Medical Center (2011–2014) and Indiana University (2014–2015), United States.
- Research at King's College London, United Kingdom (2016–2017).
- Author of research papers in international journals, including Molecular and Cellular Biology, The EMBO Journal and Scientific Reports.
- Since returning to Vietnam: research at the Vinmec Institute of Stem Cell and Gene Technology, a research project funded by VinIF, and lecturing at Dong Do University in Hanoi (2024–).
Why English for Fun
I noticed that children don't like studying, but they love playing on phones. So I wanted to make something where children learn and have fun at the same time: they still get to play on a phone, and they pick up real knowledge through play.
The goal of English for Fun is to spark a love of learning and to build the habit of learning on your own. I believe these are the two most important skills for the journey of life.
Today AI can give us almost any information. What is missing is the love of learning, the ability to teach yourself, and self-discipline. That is why English for Fun was born.
How we work
- We describe only what the games really do. For example, Letter Island teaches letter names, not phonics, and we say so.
- No ads, no child accounts and no personal data about children. Progress stays on your device.
- The microphone is optional and nothing is recorded or sent to us.
- One payment, a 14-day refund for any reason, and the first island of every game free to try.
